My tribute painting to Shirley Scott is included in the book Extraordinary Gifts: Remarkable Women of the Delaware Valley which celebrates 20 remarkable women with Philadelphia connections.
I’ve been in a big creative slump lately. Painting an abstract is more difficult for me than my previous tight, figurative style yet I’m compelled to work with the encaustic and challenge myself to be different. It’s hard to resist going back to something that was so much easier.
This painting still exists but it hangs in the basement stairwell so nobody ever sees it. I find this view pleasing.
This is a very tedious and time consuming technique but it produces really interesting results. If I could only figure out what I want to do with it, that would be great.
I clung to this little snippet of painting like Leonardo DiCaprio held onto that makeshift raft after the Titanic sank.
I finally gave in, there was no saving it. RIP little schmutz.
