Details 10-25-13

Sometimes a painting fails but a section of it was successful. I often try to salvage the good part and remake the rest of the painting, but that rarely works so I thought I’d start posting shots of the details that I hated to let go of.

Here’s #1:

Praying Mantis Babies

A big batch of praying mantis just hatched last night and took the deck by storm. There aren’t many things that give me the heebie jeebies but put a praying mantis anywhere near me and I start acting like an idiot.
These little babies aren’t so bad per se, but they still gave me a bit of an uncomfortable feeling. I guess I have a mantis phobia, I think it is more that I don’t like bugs that you can tell are thinking. I don’t like a bug that makes a gesture like it’s going to punch you in the eye. And, I definitely don’t like bugs that slowly turn their creepy little heads and watch as you move around. Nope, don’t like it one bit.

Here’s a big monster from last year. We called it Anubis.
Just looking at this photo gives me goosebumps and makes me wince. I assume it is a praying mantis, it looks a bit different than a regular one. Either way, bleh.
